Samyel Lee has been a parishioner of Saint Thomas Church since he first arrived in New York in 2018. Originally born and raised in a Presbyterian home, he was first introduced to Anglicanism by ocassionally attending services with his mother, a pianist and organist, at the Seoul Anglican Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Nicholas.
Samyel and his wife, Patricia Jo, were married at Saint Thomas in a ceremony officiated by the Reverend Juyoung Prisca Lee-Pae. Both Samyel and Patricia were also baptized at Saint Thomas by the Rector, Reverend Canon Carl F. Turner. It is customary for Korean Anglicans to be given a baptismal name and Samyel’s baptismal name is Lazarus. Samyel and Patricia currently live in Manhattan with their two dogs, Elmo and Nala.
Samyel is an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and holds a JD from Harvard Law School. Prior to attending law school, he spent time fulfilling his mandatory military service duties as a Lieutenant in the Republic of Korea Air Force, serving as the interpreting officer to the Chief of Staff. He studied political science, Russian literature and philosophy at Duke University. Samyel was born in Strasbourg, France, and spent many years abroad with his family, in Washington DC, Brussels and Paris where his father was serving as a diplomat.
