The Acolyte Guild

Members of the Acolyte Guild are charged with filling various liturgical roles in the course of the Church’s worship.  They serve as torch-bearers (bearing lights in procession), crucifers (carrying the processional crosses), thurifers (bearing incense), Masters of the Ceremony (assisting the sacred ministers in the sanctuary with the conduct of the ritual at hand), and subdeacons (one of the sacred ministers who stands, with the deacon and the priest, at the altar, representing the laity; they also read the Epistle/second lesson at Mass).  Their role in the service is analogous to the role of the angels that serve in the heavenly liturgies, of which our service on earth is a reflection, an anticipation, and an instantiation.
