Saint Michael and All Angels
Saint Michael and All Angels
O Everlasting God, who hast ordained and constituted the ministries of angels and men in a wonderful order: Mercifully grant that, as thy holy angels always serve and worship thee in heaven, so by thy appointment they may help and defend us on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Today Fr. Cheng begins a three-part series on “The Tudor Prayer Books: 1549, 1552, and 1559.” The series will examine the Books of Common Prayer promulgated under Edward VI and Elizabeth I, and, in particular, how these liturgical texts shed light on key theological debates of the English Reformation. This Sunday’s class will focus on the Prayer Book of 1549 and the liturgical contributions of Thomas Cranmer. Next Sunday’s class will focus on the Prayer Book of 1552 and the incorporation of additional Protestant theological principles into that work.
