Good Friday

Good Friday

Almighty God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

In 2018 The Reverend Fleming Rutledge was our preacher for the Three Hours Devotion on Good Friday: March 30, 2018 from 12:00pm-3:00pm.

The Rev. Fleming Rutledge is a preacher and a teacher of other preachers, known throughout the Protestant denominations of the US and Canada. She has been praised as a preacher-theologian by Roman Catholic leaders as well. She is the author of eight books, the most recent being The Crucifixion (Eerdmans), named 2016 Book of the Year by Christianity Today. Her website is www.generousorthodoxy.org.

One of the first women to be ordained to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church, she served in parish ministry for 22 years. Fourteen of those years were spent at Grace Church on Lower Broadway at Tenth Street, New York City. She was twice a resident at the Center of Theological Inquiry in Princeton, a visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome, and a teacher of homiletics in the University of Toronto School of Theology. She received an honorary D.D. degree from Virginia Theological Seminary.

A native of Franklin, Virginia, Mrs. Rutledge and her husband Reginald E. (Dick) Rutledge recently celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
