Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery hast established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. This series of Sunday classes is on selected parochial and plain sermons of John Henry Newman. There are eight published volumes of these sermons, given by Newman when he was an Anglican priest (and republished some years ago in a fine one-volume edition by Ignatius Press). We will not do them all! Fr Austin’s plan is this: each week to consider one sermon that is connected to our place in the liturgical year. 

Today’s class is the first of three that looks at Easter sermons of John Henry Newman. This week’s is called “Christ, a Quickening Spirit,” and if you want to read it in advance (not required) you can find it here. Or in the printed version, it’s sermon 13 in volume 2. We meet on the 5th floor at 10 a.m., with coffee and tea in the room, and with a welcome every week to visitors.
