Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
Almighty and everliving God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This series of Sunday classes is on selected parochial and plain sermons of John Henry Newman. There are eight published volumes of these sermons, given by Newman when he was an Anglican priest (and republished some years ago in a fine one-volume edition by Ignatius Press). We will not do them all! Fr Austin’s plan is this: each week to consider one sermon that is connected to our place in the liturgical year.
This week we look at ‚ÄúThe Cross of Christ, the Measure of the World.‚Äù This is sermon #7 in volume 6 of Parochial and Plain Sermons, and it could make a good preparation for Holy Week. If you’d like to read it, you can find it here.
The class this week is short, lasting only about 30 minutes due to preparations for the 11am Liturgy. The good news is that if you come the class, you’ll be out in time to get a good seat at church, since Palm Sunday is usually well-attended.
