Evensong today is Associate Organist Dr Teardo’s last service as a member of the Saint Thomas staff. Congratulations on your new appointment and Godspeed, dear Fred.

Saint Simon and Saint Jude

Today is the feast day of Simon and Jude, and we therefore celebrate at today’s Festal Evensong, even though we kept the propers for the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost at this morning’s masses. There is no Holy Eucharist after the 4pm Evensong. Therefore, in order that we can also celebrate Simon and Jude at masses, we have translated the feast day to tomorrow in the Chantry Chapel at 8am, 12:10pm and 5:30pm.

About Evensong: Based on the services held daily in the medieval Church, Choral Evensong as arranged in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church has been sung regularly since the Sixteenth Century. Many people who are new to worship at Saint Thomas prefer to come to Choral Evensong because it is relatively contemplative. The service includes readings (just as would occur at Evening Prayer) and prayers led by a priest. An anthem as well as a setting of the Magnificat and the Nunc dimittis are sung by the choir. Read more about Choral Evensong here, or view the Choral Evensong Service Card posted to the bottom of this page, where links to the webcast will be posted during and after the service.

‚ñ∫There is no Mass following Choral Evensong on Sundays. If you would like to make your Holy Communion for the week, consider attending one of the morning Eucharists, or else at any of the other sixteen masses at Saint Thomas later this week.

‚ñ∫The Rector speaks about the month of November in his weekly audio message. Please join us during this month of spiritual harvest. Details for services and events throughout the month of November are currently being added to the website calendar.

‚ñ∫Are you one of the many hundreds from around the world who enjoy Choral Evensong via the Saint Thomas webcasts? Choral Evensong is freely available, but at significant cost. Please help us continue the tradition of Choral Evensong for all who walk through our doors or listen in on the webcasts. We ask you to consider making yourself known to us via the 2013 Every Member Canvass at whatever level you are able.
