O God, who before the passion of thy only-begotten Son didst reveal his glory upon the holy mount: Grant unto us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Included in this Festal Eucharist are hymns sung by the congregation and choir, additional music sung exclusively by the choir, lessons, prayers, a sermon, and a Rite I Mass. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion. ‚ñ∫Ash Wednesday is soon upon us. The Rector speaks of Ash Wedneday and the First Sunday in Lent in his weekly audio message. Music notes: Born in Vermont in 1981 and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Nico Muhly is a composer living and working in New York City. His instrumental works have been played around the country as well as in Russia, France and England. His choral music has been sung in churches around the United Kingdom and has been broadcast by the BBC. Recently, his set of songs based on The Elements of Style was performed at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street and his score for the film The Reader has received critical acclaim. Muhly’s Bright Mass with Canons is dedicated to John Scott and The Choir of Saint Thomas Church. It was premiered on February 26, 2006, and is featured on the choir’s recent CD ‘American Voices‘.
