Holy Cross Day

Holy Cross Day

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world unto himself: Mercifully grant that we, who glory in the mystery of our redemption, may have grace to take up our cross and follow him; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Saint Augustine (AD 354-430) is the most influential theologian of the early Church, and the Confessions is his classic spiritual autobiography of his life up to his baptism at age 33. Over five weeks, Father Austin will give us guided talks to the first nine “books” of the Confessions, paying special attention foundational Christians teaching. This course would be appropriate for any newcomer to the faith, but also for those who may have been Christians for decades and yet never have read the Confessions. Father Austin also welcomes those who wish to read the Confessions again.

The translation by Henry Chadwick is recommended (Oxford World Class series).
